Amazing Time-Lapse Video Shows Construction of New San Diego Central Library

The San Diego Central Library will be holding a grand opening ceremony tomorrow, Saturday, September 28, ending the long-awaited opening of the state of the art facility.

Over two years, the seemingly slow construction of the domed building dominating the downtown San Diego skyline was witnessed by many residents and commuters gazing up in anticipation of the finished library.

Over 27 months EarthCam, a leader in time-lapse video documentation, captured and hand-edited over 48,000 hours of footage taken during the construction of what may well become one of America’s Finest City’s iconic structures.

From April 2011 to July 2013, EarthCam’s 12 MegapixelCam video camera documented progress for the $185 million San Diego Central Library with a professional construction camera.

“To celebrate the opening tomorrow, we partnered with Turner Construction Company to premiere a time-lapse movie showcasing the construction process,” said Lauren Hopkins, Marketing Coordinator for EarthCam.
