“The Lion King” is coming to Blu-ray. Join Simba, Timon, Pumba, and the rest of the residents of the Pride Lands with this do-it-yourself lion mask! Disney’s animated classic is taking its rightful place on the Walt Disney Signature Collection August 29, 2017.
This DIY mask project is inspired by “The Lion King” movie. You and your friends can make your own, with a little help from an adult, in about an hour.
Here’s what you need:
- 2 sheets of yellow construction paper
- 2 sheets of orange construction paper
- 1 sheet of black construction paper
- 1 sheet of brown construction paper
- 1 paper plate
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
Follow these steps:
- Draw a circle on the paper plate and then cut out a hole big enough to fit your face.
- Cut the yellow and orange construction paper into 1 inch strips.
TIP: Parents, if you have a paper trimmer or cutter, this part will go faster if you cut multiple sheets at a time.
- Glue the strips around the paper plate alternating colors; an orange strip then a yellow one until the circle is covered
- Outline the ears. Use the brown sheet of construction paper to make the outer part of the ear, then cut a smaller ear from the black sheet of construction paper
- Glue the black pieces over the brown
- Glue the ears to the paper strips. Make sure to glue the ears over the plate area – the strongest part of the mask
- Glue or staple a large Popsicle stick to the bottom of the plate. This will be the masks handle.
That’s it for the mask. If you want to have even more fun, paint whiskers and a little black nose on your face.
This fun DIY lion mask project will make you want to roar! Here’s something else that will make roar with laughter. Did you know that after 57 years and 54 movies, Pumba is the first character to fart in Disney movie? This essential bit of trivia is in my book, “101 Movies To See Before You Grow Up.”
