A Floral Wonderland for Families

The Flower Fields provide a variety of family-friendly activities that ensure a memorable visit:

Tractor-Pulled Wagon Rides: I took this ride for the first time and it was a delight. The sun was setting and I had the golden hour light wash over me. Be sure to add this activity and enjoy a leisurely tour through the colorful fields aboard an open-air wagon. This ride offers panoramic views and insightful commentary about the flowers and the farm’s history. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children aged 3-10; children under 3 ride free.

Butterfly Encounter: Step into a charming greenhouse filled with butterflies. This interactive exhibit allows children and adults to observe and learn about these delicate creatures up close.

Sweet Pea Maze: Navigate a living labyrinth of fragrant sweet pea blossoms. This engaging activity is perfect for children and adds a playful touch to your visit.

Santa’s Playground: Originally part of the Santa’s Village amusement park, this area features whimsical playhouses and oversized mushrooms, providing a delightful play space for younger visitors.

Carlsbad Mining Company: Experience the thrill of mining as you sift through sand and water to uncover polished gemstones—a fun and educational activity for aspiring young geologists.

Artistic Delights Amidst the Blooms

This year, The Flower Fields proudly present the “Glass in Flight” exhibit by artist Alex Heveri.

The outdoor display showcases larger-than-life glass and steel sculptures of butterflies, dragonflies, and other insects, some soaring up to 12 feet high. As sunlight filters through their vibrant wings, these sculptures create a mesmerizing dance of light and color, adding an artistic flair to the natural beauty surrounding them.

Be sure to sit on the Butterfly Bench exactly in the middle and take a photo. Heveri designed the antennae to show over your head in a photo.

Strolling Through the Blossoms—Bee-Free!

Since I’ve never been stung by a bee, I was worried about the flowers attracting these pollinators. However, visitors are welcome to wander through designated pathways amidst the rows of flowers, and since Ranunculus flowers cultivated here are unscented, that means they don’t attract bees! This allows guests to immerse themselves in the floral beauty without concern about bee encounters.
