The online movie ticket outlet Fandango.com slowed to a crawl as sales for the special event showing of “Twilight”, taking place at Pacific Gaslamp Stadium 15 Theaters in San Diego, California on July 23rd, went live at 9am this morning. Crazed fans, limited to two tickets at $10 each for the screening event scheduled for all 15 theaters at 5:30pm, scrambled to get confirmations for their ticket purchases only to get the dreaded “Error” page.
A phone call to the theater manager confirmed that due to the system failure the estimated 2,300 tickets would remain on sale beyond the 9:30am limit, and would be available for purchase until sold out. Fandango customer service also confirmed the internet system's inability to handle the surge in purchases, and recommended getting tickets through their automated system at 1-800-326-3264.
The one-time special screening of the teen vampire movie is part of the “Twilight Experience” taking place in conjunction with Comic-Con 2009, and where surprise cast members are scheduled to make announcements about the upcoming sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
A customer service representative from Fandango concluded our earlier conversation by adding this piece of advice for frustrated Twilighters seeking the limited number of tickets, “Keep trying all day”.
