11th Annual Contest Invites Video Entries for the First Time.
Time Warner Cable today announced the launch of the 2012 Best Moms contest, an annual event that provides San Diego County children the opportunity to celebrate the qualities that make their moms special and earn them well-deserved recognition for Mother’s Day. Now in its 11th year, the Best Moms Contest invites San Diego students in grades four through 12 to submit an essay or short video sharing their stories of what makes their mom a “Best Mom.”
For the first time, the Time Warner Cable Best Moms Contest will welcome video entries this year, along with essay submissions, in an effort to inspire the development of students’ science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills. Through its “Connect a Million Minds” initiative, Time Warner Cable supports efforts that inspire young people to build the STEM skills they need to become the problem solvers of tomorrow. The Time Warner Cable Best Moms Contest encourages students to tell their personal stories using basic STEM skills such as computer literacy (all essay entries in the Best Moms Contest must be typed) and introductory video production.
Time Warner Cable Best Moms Contest will run from February 10 through March 9, 2012. Judges will select up to 50 “Best Moms” winners based on the student entries’ creativity, style and content. One winner from each school level – elementary, middle and high school – will receive a new Sony Tablet S, and the winning students’ teachers will each receive a $250 gift card for classroom supplies. Each Best Mom and her participating student will be honored at a special luncheon on Saturday, May 12, where they will receive an award and gifts generously donated by sponsors throughout San Diego.
“We believe it is crucial to support programs and initiatives that enhance educational opportunities in our shared community,” said Pam Pantua, San Diego community relations specialist for Time Warner Cable. “The Best Moms Contest not only allows us to honor some of San Diego’s most dedicated and inspiring moms and other caregivers, but it also encourages students to use their creativity, storytelling and STEM skills to share the enormous contributions that their mothers, fathers, grandparents and other adults playing the role of ‘mom,’ make to their lives.”
Entry forms are available online and at retail and sponsor locations across San Diego. For more information about the Best Moms Contest, including rules and submission instructions, please visit the website at www.twcwest.com/bestmoms.
