“Bambi,” which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, joins the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on May 23, and on Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand on June 6.
The iconic Disney animation that introduced us to Bambi, Thumper the rabbit, and Flower the skunk was first released in August of 1942. This heartwarming story taught us hard lessons about life and how to overcome the many hardships we encounter — including the loss of a parent. This film has transcended over seven and half decades to become a classic that will be loved by future generations.
Movie Synopsis
In a classic Disney animation, a fawn named Bambi joins his new friends, a young rabbit named Thumper and a skunk kit named Flower in happily exploring the woods. Bambi is captivated with a young doe named Faline, and he learns from his doting mother and his father — the Great Prince of the Forest — that besides the delights of the forest, there is danger in open meadows where hunters can see them. Though fear and tragedy touch Bambi’s life, another spring brings renewal.
To mark “Bambi’s” anniversary edition, movie critic and Disney historian, Leonard Maltin, hosted a special screening of this masterpiece at The Academy in Los Angeles, California.
The original voice actor who provided the voice for young Bambi, Donnie Donagen, was also present at the screening. Maltin is the Coronado Film Festival’s Honorary Jury President, and will be returning for my city’s second annual film fest in November of this year.
The 75th Anniversary Collection release includes a variety of new bonus material, including recordings of Walt Disney discussing the challenges and triumphs during the production of “Bambi” deleted scenes and characters; stories and effects that “Bambi” had on the Studio, other films and artists; and much, much more.
