“Party Like An All-Star” Shaun Phillips does it for the kids

This year's “Party Like An All-Star” dodgeball tournament at the Hard Rock Hotel brought out players dressed as 80's athletes, Hard Rock Hotel employees, and even a team of “The Bachelor” celebrities to participate in the third annual charity event  to raise money for the San Diego After School All-Stars program. This program  benefits under privileged and at-risk youth by funding activities to help keep kids safe during the “Danger Zone” hours  between 3-6 pm.

Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips is the tournament's ambassador, and was there to support everyone who came out to enjoy a fast and furious round of dodgeball.  Local DJ's, Geena The Latina, who has a new show on Channel 93.3, and Hula Ramos, with 94.1 “AJ in The Morning” show, acted as MC's for this energy-packed fun-raiser.

I had a chance to talk with the football player and asked him why he lends his support for this program, “I do it for the kids” he told me. “It helps them to see that a guy like me supports them”.

For me, speaking with Phillips added more inspiration to pass on to my own son. You see, my son is currently at Purdue University and Shaun Phillips was a Boilermaker himself!

Although playing dodgeball with grown ups didn't look too safe, take a look at the fun time everyone had raising money to help our youth be safe after school!
