San Diego’s premier movie festival will take place October 2-6, 2013. Get your festival passes here!
Last year, SDFF hosted a variety of celebrities and first-run films at the Gaslamp theater in downtown San Diego.
Among the entertainment industry’s most recognizable people we found an unexpected name: Joey Travolta.
Does the name ring a bell? It should. He’s actor John Travolta’s brother, and he was at the SDFF 2012 surrounded by a gaggle of children promoting “30 Minutes Tonight,” a film made at the camp for children with autism, and presented a the festival.
In the past, this two-week film camp was held at colleges or other sponsored sites. In 2012, the camp was held at Cox Communications in San Diego.
Another special program offered in the past during the San Diego Film Festival, is a one-day film instruction program for emerging filmmakers. Students, with school permission, attend an all-day session where they meet with producers and filmmakers to learn the ins and outs of the art and business of movies.
One of the highlights of this year’s cinematic festival will be the award ceremony which will honor Mariel Hemmingway with a Humanitarian Award given by the San Diego Film Festival and Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital.
Of course, there’s much more to see and do during the 5-day film fest. Check out the just-released schedule of films, documentaries and shorts, and make plans to be here this year!
