Spend Valentine’s Day at San Diego Museum of Art’s Love Tour

This Valentine’s Day, The San Diego Museum of Art is embracing romance with a new, love-themed art tour. Couples can enjoy the best love-inspired works in the Museum’s collection with For the Love of Art: Love in Works from the Permanent Collection. The tour will be offered on select days throughout February with a special picnic package from Panama 66 available on Valentine’s Day.

For the Love of Art will include docent-led tours that showcase a dozen classic love stories on view throughout the Museum’s galleries. The works featured span centuries and geographies, including Apollo and Daphne by Veronese, painted in the 16th century, which tells the dramatic story of the Greek god Apollo and his pursuit to charm the maiden Daphne after being struck by Eros’ golden arrow of love, and romantic works from the Edward Binney 3rd Collection of Indian paintings.  For information on when, the tours are available in February, visit http://www.sdmart.org/tours.

Panama 66, the restaurant located at the Museum’s May S. Marcy Sculpture Court, is also offering a Valentine’s Day picnic basket meal for two that includes an exclusive after-hours art tour, available exclusively on February 14. The picnics include gourmet sandwiches, a cheese or vegan plate, chocolate truffles and a bottle of champagne, wine, or craft beer. Lovebirds may dine within the restaurant, or take an available blanket to the Sculpture Garden lawn.  The after-hours tours included with the meal begin at 5:00 p.m., with the tour being offered every half hour until 7:00 p.m. The cost for the picnic and tour is $80. In addition to these tours, a Valentine’s Day-themed Second Saturday Workshop will occur at the Museum on Feb. 14. Local artist Bhavna Mehta will teach attendees how to make their own hand-cut Valentine’s Day cards inspired by works from the Permanent Collection.
