Fun and Free Family Activities to Celebrate the Long Labor Day Weekend

September 2-5 is Labor Day weekend – the unofficial end of summer. Take advantage of these fun and free activities over the holiday weekend — and before they’re gone, too.

LITTLE ITALY STICKBALL TOURNAMENT. Watch adults battle it out playing a friendly game of stickball on the streets – like many of us use to do with our neighborhood friends before theme parks offered annual passes.

• September 3rd and 4th, from 8am to 5pm, on State Street and W Ash in Little Italy.

OPEN COCKPIT DAYS at the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum in Miramar.

• Sit in the cockpit of a fighter jet from Desert Storm, or a war plane from WWII, the Korean or Vietnam wars.
• Veterans are also on hand to recount their experiences flying these remarkable aircraft.
• September 3^rd and 4^th are the last days this year you’ll be able to sit in one of these historic planes.
• SHOW UP EARLY in the day, before it gets too hot, since this is an outdoor exhibit.

VIEJAS ICONS Water, Light and Fire Show. Let the kids play in the interactive water fountains, and later, sit back and enjoy the FREE ICONS Show at Viejas Show Court.

The ICONS Pre-Show begins at 5:30pm, and the main performance starts at 8pm.

• What’s Labor Day without a little shopping? The Outlets at Viejas are sure to have great deals.
• But the best deal is one that’s FREE. The fountains are free to play in, and are open daily from 11am to 5pm until September 5.

BARONA POWOW. For something more authentic, you can experience a real PowWow .

• FREE PowWow at the 46^th Annual Barona Powwow September 2-4.
• Barona Band of Mission Indians invites everyone to experience Native American culture on the Barona Indian Reservation.
• Three day celebration starts Friday with Gourd Dancing and a spectacular Grand Entry of dancers in colorful costumes.

CORONADO SUMMER CONCERT IN THE PARK Coronado Summer Concert Series

• FREE and family-friendly event at Spreckels Park.
• Bring a picnic and a blanket, kick off your flip flops, and dance to the tunes of the high energy band Pop Vinyl, September 4^th at 5pm.

SUMMER MOVIES IN THE PARK. FREE movies and pre-movie activities for the whole family.

• There are several locations in San Diego County where you can catch a free movie on Labor Day weekend.
• Kick off the Labor Day weekend September 2^nd at Waterfront Park located next to the San Diego County Administration building.
• Watch “Back To The Future” 7-9PM at the Waterfront Park.
• Haagen Dazs will be giving away FREE ice cream samples from their Aritsan Collection, too.
• There will also be food trucks and concession stands available at this event.
