September at Seaport Village and The Headquarters means free family fun for all! Pirates, mermaids, costume contests, DIY eye patch stations, and photos in a mermaid grotto are a few of the activities in store for you this month at the seaside centers.
Take advantage of these free and family-friendly events Seaport and The Headquarters will be hosting during the month of September:
Fleet Week Sea & Air Parade – September 10
Back and bigger than ever, the Fleet Week Sea & Air Parade is returning to San Diego on September 10, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the first time since 2008, the parade will feature amphibious ships, destroyers, Marine and Coast Guard ships and submarines. As one of the best spots to view the parade, many of the shops and restaurants at Seaport and its sister property the Headquarters, will be offering military discounts throughout Fleet Week including 20% off merchandise at America’s Heroes, 15% off the entire bill at Buster’s Beach House, 10% off all art at Aaron Chang Gallery and 15% off at Flour & Barley. A list of all military discounts offered at both properties can be found here and here Would this be a fit for any “where to watch the Sea & Air Parade” roundups? USS Midway also offers free admission or active military, and $10 admission to retired military with ID, if you see a fit for a larger roundup.
There’s a little something planned for the adults, too.
Flour & Barley at the Headquarters will be offering two special military themed cocktails available throughout Fleet Week including The Admiral ($10) with whiskey, black tea, lemon juice, brown sugar and bitters; and the Purple Heart ($10) with muddled blackberries, vodka and simple syrup.
Salsa Under the Stars – September 23
On the third Friday of each month, the Manny Cepeda Orchestra takes over the Headquarters outdoor courtyard for a night of live salsa music and dancing. The free event runs from 6-9 p.m. and no partner or previous experience is needed. Salsa dancers can make a night of it by grabbing dinner, drinks or dessert at one of the many restaurants/eateries including Puesto, Flour & Barley and Gelato Paradiso.
Landlubbers Day – September 17
Landlubbers Day is returning for its second year! Similar to last year, the free event is a celebration of all things pirate in honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Running from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, Landlubbers Day will feature live music from the Jackstraws (San Diego’s very own pirate-themed band), a “Talk Like a Pirate” contest, a mermaid grotto with photos opportunities, pirates booty food and drink specials and activities for buccaneers. Guests young and old are encouraged to don their finest eye patches and pirate garb – prizes for best costume will be awarded to entrants in a number of age categories.
Going back to school in September doesn’t have to mean all work and no play. Head to Seaport Village and The Headquarters this month for some free fun for everyone!
